THESE are the amazingly intact remains of a monk meditating that have lain undiscovered in Mongolia since sometime in the 1800s.
The body was found covered in a cattle skin yesterday in the Songinokhairkhan district, close to the country’s capital Ulaanbaatar.
“The mummified body sits in a lotus position, as if still meditating,” said a report in Mongolia’s Morning Newspaper.
“Experts that only had time to carry basic visual test say they believe the body can be about 200 years old.”
“So far there is no information as to where the body was found. The only details we learnt was that it was covered with a cattle skin,” the report added.
The mummy has been delivered to the Ulaanbataar National Centre of Forensic Expertise for further investigation.
Initial speculation is that the mummy could be a teacher of famous Lama Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov.
