Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has today been identified as the footballer behind a gagging order over a sexual encounter.
He went to the High Court to try and stop Sarah Watson from going public about the affair at a hotel in Manchester following a party.
But she fought the injunction despite claiming she was threatened with jail, the gagging order and the prospect of paying a £35,000 legal bill.
She was offered money to go public about the brief affair, but lawyers tried to shut the story down and she was depicted in court as a money-grabbing blackmailer.
Defender Rojo, 25, who has a child with girlfriend Eugenia Kusardo, was named by the Mail on Sunday as the footballer.
Miss Watson said: ‘People who look after Marcos claimed I had demanded £100,000 to keep quiet about our encounter. But it was a lie and they knew it. They tried to trap me.’

Speaking about the night she met him last December after being invited to an exclusive part of a club, she said: ‘He came over to me and sat down. His English was quite bad but he was chatty and said nice things to me about how I looked and how he liked my Versace dress.
‘He said: “You’re gorgeous, you’re the best looking girl in here.” It was all very cheesy but he’s so good looking that I gave him my number.’
She then left but he started messaging her and eventually she went to a flat in Manchester and they ended up in the bedroom.
Newspapers found out about the affair and she was offered £30,000, but has never received the money.
An injunction was served against Sarah but she went on to defeat it and Rojo was ordered to pay £25,000 legal costs.
Mr Justice Wary quashed the right to privacy argument because ‘the sexual relationship here was fleeting and involved a single act’.
He also threw out the blackmail accusations saying ‘there is likely to be speculation about the identity of the unnamed footballer. Others may unjustly be brought under suspicion.’
A spokesman for Manchester United said: ‘It’s not something the club would want to comment on, and the player is not available for comment.’
